American football player (1905-1931). Though proficient in a number of sports, Kelly demonstrated exceptional gridiron abilities in high school and at his hometown college, the University of Montana, leading to a short-lived professional career that began with the New York Yankees (football) in 1927. Kelly died suddenly while watching a football game in New York at the age of 26 and was posthumously inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1969. Rare mailing envelope addressed in Kelly's hand to "H.O. Bell, Ford Garage, Missoula, Montana," 6" x 4", bearing an indistinct postmark, signed on the reverse, "W.C. Kelly, Com K., 2nd platoon, Camp Lewis Wash." The recipient was a Missoula automobile dealer who employed Kelly for four years. Light uniform toning to the envelope, otherwise fine. Accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity from James Spence Authentication (JSA).
